Rilke und Russland
Dass Russland meine Heimat ist, gehört zu jenen großen und geheimnisvollen Sicherheiten, aus denen ich lebe.
I designed visual identity, exhibition graphic as well as affiliated print media for trinational exhibition »Rilke und Russland«. In 1899 and 1900, Rainer Maria Rilke together with Lou Andreas-Salomé visited Russia, today's Ukraine twice. The trips were a revival experience for Rilke - personal, artistic and spiritual. Russland blieb für Rilke zeitlebens Heimat und Sehnsuchtsort.
The 300 pages exhibition catalogue I designed for trinational exhibition »Rilke und Russland«. The outside of the book is covered with black soft touch lacquer. The jacket and the inside of the spine are golden. The contrast between light and shadow, between iconic spirituality and suprematism reflect not only Rilke’s Russian experiences, but also crucial design aspects of the exhibition.
This catalogue design was rewarded winner of German Design Award 2018.
